Product Review: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint SPF 15

This January I decided to test out a tinted moisturizer with SPF, in prep for my upcoming family’s vacation in March for spring break. The thought was that I could reduce the amount of multiple products in my suitcase by getting a product to replace both my daily SPF moisturizer and foundation. Being the sensitive skinned individual that I am, I wanted to start trying the product earlier than later, just to make sure that I didn’t suffer a reaction while on vacation. Cause let’s be real – it’s not fun to be away from home and suffer a rash or severe breakout.

So, I decided to cash in some rewards points and purchased the Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint SPF 15 from Sephora, as I’d read several other reviews about the product and the Ceramidin line from the Dr. Jart+ brand. The Day Tint comes in one shade, and is formulated without parabens, sulfates or phthalates. The only thing that concerned me was the sunscreen formulation, which is the chemical blend of Octinoxate and Octisalate, as both have been known to cause allergic reactions with hyper sensitive skins. But the packaging said it was safe for sensitive skin, so I decided to try – I also thought it would be a great time to test it for its moisturizing capability, since it’s in the middle of January and our air is so dry.

I’ll start out by saying the level of technology for this product is very advanced. It combines the ultra skin-caring ingredients of ceramides, which are naturally occurring lipids that help build and protect skin’s own moisture barrier and production. Ceramides are in many skin care products, and this has the added benefit of a sheer tint and SPF protection. Your skin naturally slows in its own production of ceramide over time, which contributes to aging and lack of plump, healthy skin cells. Dr. Jart+ is a dermatologist-developed brand, inspired by Korean innovations, so the products are made to multi-task and develop healthier skin through daily use.

The color is a soft, sheer light beige, and goes on with a bit of a dewy finish. I felt it was doing a great job of hydrating, and didn’t make my combination skin feel oily on my forehead or chin. I would apply the product either with my fingers or a foundation brush, as it took the place of my daily moisturizer and foundation. But with daily use throughout the month of January, I began to notice irritation around my nose (where I always usually get a bit of dryness and flaking) and slight breakouts along the side of my chin after about 3 weeks. I realized that the breakouts were from irritation, as they were red, raised and clear fluid-filled, not a bacteria-caused yellowish or white pus. This type of breakout is when your skin is reacting to an ingredient, but people often mistake it for having acne. Having a hunch that I was reacting to the chemical sunscreens in the product, stopped using the Day Tint for a week, went back to my daily moisturizer and foundation, and my skin cleared up.

In all, I think the product concept and technology is great, if you don’t have sensitivities to chemical sunscreens. The product is fragrance-free, so in theory it is safer for sensitive skins. My concern is with the chemical sunscreen formula – my challenge back to the brand would be to develop the formula with titanium or zinc-oxide, as a physical sunscreen would cause less chance for reaction. I do plan on trying the other products within the Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin line, as not all contain SPF formulations.

Product Highlight: Physician’s Formula Super BB All-in-1 Stick

Spring is a great time to adjust your skincare and makeup routine. As the seasons change, the climate affects how your skincare and makeup will behave. Humidity and sun exposure are two big reasons to ensure your makeup is optimized – note: the less you use, the better and fresher you’ll look as the day goes on.

Many of you who know me know that I love Physician’s Formula beauty products. One huge reason is that they completely cater to sensitive skin types. Plus, their products are known to multi-task. Case in point, I recently came across their Super BB All-In-1 BB Cream Stick. I wanted something that could be convenient for travel this coming summer, and also something that would work as a foundation/concealer/SPF to lessen the amount of products to lug around. So, here’s my two cents:

  • At first glance, I think there could be more product within the tube. Typically their products are generous in size, and are a good value. Especially for something that is supposed to replace multiple products. (I believe in getting my money’s worth)
  • Coverage is decent, and I would consider it medium coverage. But buildable – tip: apply directly from the tube to the skin, and smooth out with a foundation brush. Use your pinky finger for concealing.
  • There’s not a large variety of shades to pick from – my skin tone is light, and the “Light” shade matched me. The formula is super blendable, and did not turn orange on me. But if you’re very fair, there may not be a light enough shade to match.
  • The SPF 30 is a combination of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Dioxide – ding, ding, ding!! My skin had zero irritation or itchiness. #winning
  • By 8pm, my skin still looks fresh – my combination skin was not an oil slick in the T-zone.
  • “10+ Beauty Benefits”?!? YES. Sign me up for firming, smoothing, etc.

Overall verdict? I like the performance and ingredients, and am impressed with the amount of benefits at a value price. GREAT pick for an easy to use product if you are traveling, or popping into your gym bag.
