Simply put, this is a great powder foundation. I usually am a liquid or stick foundation type of girl, because I like a medium-to-full coverage formula. But somedays, it’s nice to shake it up and have something different. So, one of the powder foundations that I like to go to for my sensitive skin is from Laura Geller – her iconic Balance-n-Brighten Baked Color Correcting formula.
One thing that is dramatically different about this product is the swirl of colors within it. The variations create a brightening effect on the skin, and the yellow shade swirled in with colors will naturally give the skin a more “awake” look. Mineral oil and paraben-free, this is one of the few powder foundations I can wear that doesn’t cause my skin to itch or dry out quickly.
But why would you want a powder formula? Well, for one, this formula builds easily to become as sheer or as full coverage as you’d like, yet feels very lightweight. I also like this more than translucent powder for when I want to keep shine away but not make my skin dull – the baked color swirls give that brightening effect, and it blends easily with bronzer. Also, if you have a breakout, I’ve found that powder foundations sometimes make it easier to cover than liquid. Simply use a clean, small eyeshadow brush to place product specifically where you need more coverage, or to set concealer. For all over use, my favorite brush to use with this is my Cargo Magic Brush.
Other fun tips in using powder foundation:
- If you applied too much blush and are in a rush, swipe powder foundation over your cheeks to tone down color.
- If you have issues with oilier eyelids, a sweep of powder foundation prior to applying eyeshadow can help in keeping color from creasing.
- If you travel a lot and don’t have much room for liquids, consider switching to a powder formula. They are long-wearing, and modern formulas are typically nourishing to the skin – not drying.
If you are especially in the “no-makeup” makeup look camp, I recommend giving this a try. It’s easy to use, and lasts a long time. Plus, the formula is very skin friendly for a wide range of skin types.
