Sleep is, in itself, a beauty essential. When we sleep well, and for a full 8 hours, our bodies repair themselves. Skin is our largest organ, and it’s very easy to tell (speaking as a former esthetician) when we don’t get enough sleep to repair daily stress and damage. Dark circles, pale skin tones, and even breakouts can occur from lack of sleep. So, how can you fake it, if you aren’t able to get enough sleep regularly? Adding a specific type of repairing moisturizer to your nightly skincare routine will assist your skin look its best. I still insist on trying to get as much rest as possible, but life doesn’t always work that way. Here are some of my top picks, based on skin type:

For Dry Skin and Combination Skin types –
- Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream Fragrance-Free: In a word, this stuff ROCKS. It’s actually suitable for oily skin too, since the formula readily absorbs into skin. It smooths, repairs, hydrates, balances, and with continued use reduces fine lines.
- Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare Recapture 360 Night: This is a recent new-comer to the market, and I really love it for drier skin. It helps replace lost moisture and plump up skin cells. It’s also loaded with anti-oxidants to help skin defend itself. And it does not contain any fragrance!
For Combination and Oily Skin types –
- Trader Joe’s Nourish Oil-free Anti-Oxidant Facial Moisturizer: actually, this moisturizer is perfect for any skin type. But what I really love about it for oily skin is that it is light, balancing, and delivers repairing anti-oxidants to help skin look amazing. Plus, it contains copper peptides for added anti-aging boost to skin’s collagen production. Oily skin absolutely needs moisture replenished – you’ll notice that by using the right moisturizer, your skin doesn’t have to produce as much oil. Hint for summer – blend a bit of this with your foundation on the back of your hand, and it makes an awesome tinted moisturizer!
You’ll find that if you switch up your skincare per the seasons, you’ll get better results. For example, now that humidity is in the summer air, I’ve swapped my Olay Regenerist nightly moisturizer for the Trader Joe’s Nourish moisturizer at night – I notice that my skin is more shine-free throughout the day.
The best thing about these moisturizers is that a little goes a long way with each. Plus, you may notice that over time you don’t need as much foundation if you are using the best moisturizer for your skin type!
